Magazine Analysis

MOJO Magazine

Technical Elements

Main Cover Image
The main cover image is a photograph of 'Queen'. This image is used to attract attention from readers who like this band. In the image 'Queen' are also looking into the camera to connect with the reader.
Masthead
The masthead of this magazine is 'MOJO'. The word 'MOJO' was often used in the 70's or 80's symbolizing style and cool. This makes us think that it is for people who like music from the 70's or 80's as this word was often used back then.

Main Cover Line
The main cover line is 'QUEEN'. This shows us that the main subject/article in this issue is the band 'QUEEN'. It uses the biggest font compared to all the other cover lines. The font is also borrowed from the band as it is written the same way it is when advertised.
The Strapliner
The strapliner is 'The second coming' this is a continuity to the main cover line. This sentence shows us that the image of this interview is to build on the comeback of the band 'Queen'.
Cover Lines
The cover lines are 'Isaac Hayes' and 'David Gilmour'. There are cover lines located on the left of this cover.
Graphic
Graphic is used in this case to let the reader know about the special offer. On this cover the graphic is located in the top left-hand corner and says, 'Free CD'.
Banner
There is also a banner which is a stap located at the top of the page also highlighting the other subjacts this magazine contains e.g. 'Bon Iver' and 'Paul McCartney Speaks'.
Mode of Adress
'MOJO' also uses three full stops and exclamation marks on all of it's straplines and coverlines. The full stops are used to show continuation and the exclamation marks are used to alert the reader.
There is also a rectangle in the right-hand corner which contains the bar code, the price and the isue date of the magazine. This magazine is dated October 2008, this tells us that it comes out monthly.
Image
The image is on the cover is a photograph. It is of a band called 'Queen' made up of four Caucasian males. They clothes they arewearing makes us think that their music is a bit Indie and Rock 'n' Roll. Also from their hair styles and clothing we can tell that the photograph isn't recent.
Audience
From the bands listed on the cover we can tell that the magazine is aimed at adults aged around 35-45. I can tell this as all these bands were really famous in the 90's whereas now they are not as known by young people as they were in the past. Also all the band members are Caucasian and are male, this means that it is likely that the magazine is mostly aimed at caucasian males. By the way 'Queen' are dressed I think that their music is mostly Ppo/Rock/Indie, this is why I think that 'MOJO' magazine is aimed at people who associate themeselves to the same music.

Magazine: KER RANG

Technical Elements

Masthead - The masthead is called 'KER RANG' this indicates a loud noise to distress the audience/reader. In between the word 'KER RANG' one of the letter R is missing. This is because the black and red coffin is covering the letter.

Banner - The banner says 'Bullet for my valentine/Avenged seven fold/Free ozzfest posters'. This is presented in a white font, with bold capital letters.

Graphic - The graphic shows a free offer such as a free poster or free CD in front of the magazine.

Cover lines - The cover lines have been placed on the right hand side of the magazine. This includes 'K! AWARDS 06 and the winners are etc...'  The colors are still mainly based on black and red.

Image

Main cover image - All the five members are looking directly towards the audience. They have a miserable look with no smile presented on their face. In addition, they have used a lot of black mascara and black eyeliner indicating an emo or gothic impression.

Aiden band members - The main images which bring out the magazine itself are the band members 'AIDEN' there are five different members and each one of them are dress in the shades of black, white and red. They have on heavily make up which could suggest a sense of emo, gothic or vampire.

The audience could be as young as 14 to over 25 years old. There is not an exact age range as people have different styles.

Magazine analysis

MOJO MAGAZINE

Mojo is a magazine aimed at 30-40 years old. This is because the front cover has a well know group called "Queen". "Queen" are known by the older generation who are mainly caucasian. The target audience are drawn into the magazine instantly by the use of image, font, size and colour. The group of four are the main attraction  because they are the first thing the eyes get drawn into then they eyes drift toward that band name "Queen". The font that the bands name is written in is the actual way the band present their name on C-Ds, posters and other promoting techniques. The use of colour is used very effectively as white stands out on black and immediately grabs attention. Also "Queen" is written in 3-D, this creates a dramatic effect making the eyes focus on the word. The layout of the magazine is very well laid out because none of the writing is cramped on but is well spaced out.
